Tribute to Adolf Frohner
Lentos Shows 19 Works from the Collection
Following the unexpected death of Adolf Frohner, Lentos presents a tribute to this internationally important Austrian artist, beginning immediately: a total of 19 works - four paintings, important early works, and 15 graphic works - from the Lentos Collection are assembled in the fifth room of the collection presentation.
There has always been a cordial connection between Adolf Frohner and the Lentos Art Museum. In an artist´s talk in conjunction with the exhibition "Paris 1945 - 1965" he personally recounted the background and origins of his work "Die Flucht (Hommage à Jean Dubuffet)" from 1966.
The co-founder of "Viennese Actionism" was one of the most important painters from Austria. His political interest led Frohner to "critical realism" in his painting. His breakthrough as an artist came in 1969 with the Sao Paolo Biennale and in 1970 at the Venice Biennale. Only a few days before his death, he took part in the ground-breaking ceremony for the Frohner Forum in Krems in Lower Austria.
Lentos holds a total of 41 works by Adolf Frohner, 37 graphic works and the four paintings currently presented. The work survey will be on display at the Lentos Art Museum Linz until the end of May.
