In honor of the 50th anniversary of the death of Helene Funke on 31 July 2007, one of the most important pioneers of the international avant-garde, Dr. Elisabeth Nowak-Thaller, curator of the exhibition, will accompany art lovers on Thursday, 9 August, at 6:00 pm through the exhibition comprising a total of 125 works. This first museum retrospective was made possible thanks to support from over 50 private lenders and art museums and has met with great interest among Lentos visitors. The paintings, watercolors and graphic works by Helene Funke will be on display until 11 September 2007 in this retrospective, which the Lentos Art Museum as the first museum in the world has dedicated to this Austrian artist.
Following the guided tour through the Helene Funke exhibition, Dr. Brigitte Reutner invites visitors to a guided tour through the graphic art exhibition black & white. The Phenomenon of the Line that she has curated, and finally to a visit to the treasure chamber of the Graphics Cabinet. The collection exhibition black & white centers around a selection of graphic art featuring works by Pablo Picasso, Pierre Alechinsky, Henri Matisse, and many others. The exhibition shows the most diverse executions of the phenomenon of the line, which has continuously asserted itself in the art of the 20th and 21st century.
