New Media
Technical apparatus-based art does not have a long tradition in the Collection of the museum. The acquisition of so-called New Media - primarily analog and digital video - first began in the 2000s.
The Collection holdings are consequently in development. Works have been acquired by international and Austrian artists, who have been presented in solo or thematic exhibitions.
The purchased works by Monika Oechsler (D/GB), Kutlug Ataman (TR) and Michaela Melián (D) were shown in conjunction with their respective solo exhibitions. In Strip and High Achievers Oechsler addresses male and female roles, in The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Ataman explores cultural translation processes. Michaela Melián's award-winning sound-slide installation Föhrenwald revolves around an eponymous residential area near Munich with a highly charged history.
The work by Ricarda Denzer (A) and the one by Marko Lulic (A) interweave documentary and fictive elements in the sense of socio-political investigations.
Characteristic Linz positions are represented in the Video Collection with Dietmar Brehm, Hauenschild/Ritter and Leo Schatzl.
