Maria Lassnig: The Non-Emancipated Human Being

1967, oil on canvas 74,5 x 115 cm, Inv. Nr. 491 , acquired 1979 Maria Lassnig, born 1919 in Kappel am Krappfeld, Carinthia, lives in Vienna

A drastic scene that is typical of Maria Lassnig's work in the seventies. In the years prior to that she had introduced a new body feeling in painting. For example: instead of showing an arm realistically, the way it looks, it can also be depicted the way it feels. If it feels as cold and inflexible as an iron bar, it can also be depicted as one.
