best of lentos ties into the curatorial principle of BEST OF AUSTRIA and continues the stimulating discussion about the standards and criteria of art.

We ask again this time about the best. What are the experts' concepts of art, how do these identify with the Lentos Collection?

The director of the Lentos Art Museum Linz, the heads of the Collection, art historians and the restorator of the Museums of the City of Linz act as curator team. Andrea Bina, Angelika Gillmayr, Nina Kirsch, Elisabeth Nowak-Thaller, Brigitte Reutner, Stella Rollig and Andreas Strohhammer present the Collection in keeping with the following game rules: three works each on a wall in a pleasurable, playful arrangement from the perspective of the Lentos experts under new, very different aspects. What is shown are personal preferences, icons, metamorphoses, chance, ranking in the international art market, conservational and regional aspects, or most recent acquisitions.

Are these the highlights, the most famous, most expensive, most internationally publicized works of the Collection that have been selected by the Lentos curators? In any case, they are top works from the period of creation from 1915 to 2008, right through many styles of the 20th and 21st centuries, donations and purchases from the manifold art holdings of the Lentos Museum.

We present our favorites, bring many familiar treasures to light, but also new ones. A subjective and highly erractic course that leaves playful room for associations, but can also provoke irritations.
