Matthias Klos: UND

Matthias Klos places a text work in the museum foyer as an intervention: AND. This inconspicuous linking word becomes a picture, a conveyor of significance, a potential conversation opener.

The museum is many things. A building AND a collection AND an exhibition AND  a scientific laboratory AND a workshop AND a workplace AND a meeting point AND….The positioning of  Klos’s work points out the essential links  between the varied functions of the contemporary museum. At the same time it appears to be a curious question to the visitors, as a welcome or farewell:  “AND? What are you expecting?” or ”AND?  How was it?”

Matthias Klos, born 1969 in Hersbruck, FRG, lives in Vienna and is an assistant at the Institute of Fine Arts and Cultural Studies  at the Art University Linz.
