Avant-garde artist, high-profile theoretician, innovative curator, successful museum director, influential teacher,...
Born in 1944 in Odessa, Peter Weibel enrolled in courses in comparative literature, medicine, logic, philosophy and film studies in Paris and Wien. His mulitfaceted activities soon made him a key figure in European media art. He has held a number of professorships, some of them concurrently: professor at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna from 1984; from 1984 to 1989 Professor of Video and Digital Art at the Center for Media Study of the State University of New York in Buffalo, N.Y. In 1989 he founded the Institut für Neue Medien at Städelschule in Frankfurt, whose director he was until 1995. From 1986 to 1995 he was Artistic Director of the Ars Electronica in Linz and from 1993 to 1999 Austria's commissioner for the Venice Biennale. From 1993 to 1998 he was chief curator of the Neue Galerie in Graz and since 1999 he has been the director of the ZKM|Zentrum für Kunst und Medientechnologie Karlsruhe [Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe]. In 2011 he is the artistic director of the Fourth Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art.

sundays at 11

The LENTOS features sundays at 11, a series of talks, for which the LENTOS invites well-known figures from the world of art and culture. With LENTOS’s artistic director, Hemma Schmutz, in the chair, they discuss their activities and experiences in and with the world of art. Not only do audiences get a chance to follow the discussion at close quarters, they are also invited to join in; in fact, contributions from the floor have become an indispensable part of the format. Before the Sunday morning talk an expanded Viennese breakfast is served as an additional feature (which you are of course free to skip if you want to).
