Biography

With an homage to Jiri Kol·r, who died a few days ago at the age of 87 in Prague, the Neue Galerie der Stadt Linz pays tribute to a multi-talented artist of European stature.

The small exhibition shows for the first time all eight objects and collages owned by the Linz museum. Most of these are from the important period of his work around 1960. The works were acquired in 1981, 1987, and 2001. Most of them are from the area of poetic lettrism, a segment of fine arts that Kol·r treated with great sensitivity and ingenuity. In the late 50s he enriched the international art scene as an outsider with a high degree of individual discernment.

The exhibition at the Neue Galerie der Stadt Linz will be shown until 28 September 2002.
