The exhibition with works by Kurt Absolon, Ernst Barlach, Klemens Brosch, Georg Chaimowicz, Lovis Corinth, Honoré Daumier, Albin Egger-Lienz, Ernst Fuchs, Josef Hegenbart, Alfred Hrdlicka, Willy Jaeckel, Oskar Kokoschka, Käthe Kollwitz, Alfred Kubin, Baltasar Lobo, Sebastian Matta, Kurt Moldovan, Karl Rössing, Walter Schmögner and André Verlon shows important and engaged contributions of modern European artists against war and violence. As early as 1966 the Neue Galerie der Stadt Linz presented a touring exhibition, organised by the Vienna Festival, entitled "Engaged Art", which comprised graphic masterpieces on loan from international museums under similar premises. "Against War and Violence" is a small exhibition full of discoveries, engaged, exciting and built on contrasts. All in all there are approximately 40 works by 20 artists. The presentation on the internet offers simultaneous access to all participants of the ECCM (Network of the European Cities of Culture and cultural Months) as well as facilitating the exchange of projects. An important educational programme accompanies this exhibition: classes of the Khevenhüller-School, Hammerling- School and BRG Auhof have already confirmed their interest. The pupils will look at the graphic art and, in confrontation with it, work on the topic of "war and violence". The results of their projects - drawings, quotations, comments - will be (by extracts) presented on our homepage. Since the foundation of the Neue Galerie of the City of Linz in 1952, professional museum´s education has been one of the most important goals: to open our institution to the public, to make 19th and 20th century art generally accessible and interesting. Workshops for children, with artists, guided tours, lectures, talks, special introductions for teachers as well as the edition of pedagogical material, such as children´s catalogues or educational material for educators and teachers have been amongst the permanent offers for the public for many years and decades. The communication via the world wide web is therefore a further step towards global networking in the field of international museums and exhibitions. |
