Eduardo Paolozzi, Hommage à Anton Bruckner, 1977
Eduardo Paolozzi (*1924 Edinburgh, GBR; † 2005 London, GBR) studied at the Edinburgh College of Art in 1943 and from 1944 – 47 an the Slade School of Fine Art, London. Was in Paris from 1947 – 49 where he studied surrealism and Dubuffet’s Art Brut. With his collages of images from magazines and brochures he became one of the founders of English Pop Art. Paolozzi created sculptures from scrap metal, objects he found and high-quality materials which deal with the subject of the aesthetics of machinery.
“With this work it is not Paolozzi’s intention to illustrate Bruckner’s music but to create a comparable visual antithesis – in an entirely original way.” Peter Baum
