Günther Uecker (*1930 Wendorf/Mecklenburg, GER – lives in Düsseldorf, GER and St. Gallen, SUI) studied in Wismar from 1949 – 53 and at the Art Academy in Berlin-Weißensee. 1953 – 57 Art Academy Düsseldorf. First works reflected his study of the art of Yves Klein and Lucio Fontana and were clearly structured monochrome images. From 1957 Uecker developed the theme of the dynamics of light and monochrome images with frames and backgrounds covered with nails. As a member of ZERO he then focused on Kinetic Art using light and large nailed objects.

The Expulsion Table is actually a sculpture that rejects mankind. We seek protection under a table. This search for protection goes further until it becomes flight into the comforting bosom of a community, a state. The power of community becomes an impending threat.” Günther Uecker
