Lentos Friends

Friends support and help one another where they can. For example in researching, collecting, preserving and communicating. The Association of Friends of the Lentos aims to support and promote the museum. Through the purchase of art works the association supports the museum direction in further expanding the Collection. Since the Association was founded in 1985, members have purchased works by Tony Cragg, Gerwald Rockenschaub or EVA & ADELE and others. With their friendship they contribute to strengthening Lentos as one of the leading addresses for modern and contemporary art, thus promoting the important social, artistic and academic tasks of the museum. The museum also gives something back to you as a good friend: you become part of a pulsating art scene and provide – tax deductible – support for one of the most important museums of modern and contemporary art in Austria.

Date Title Time
Mon 18.03Treffpunkt Lentos: The Journey of the Paintings

On the evening before the opening, curator Elisabeth Nowak-Thaller and expert Birgit Schwarz invite you to take a tour of the exhibition with more than 70 works of art that were collected, stored, looted, recovered and rescued in the Salzkammergut during the Second World War. Adolf Hitler had thousands of works of art stored in the Altaussee salt mine for his planned Führer Museum” in Linz, but Austrian museums also used the Franz-Josef-Erbstollen in Bad Ischl / Lauffen as a temporary storage facility in 1944/45. The masterpieces by renowned artists tell their story of journeys and odysseys with many stops and storage locations. The Förderverein is using its funds to finance the catalogue published to accompany the exhibition.
