DECONSTRUCTING GIRLS*: Discussion event with students of the University of Arts Linz

The event addresses discourses surrounding girls’* bodies, their disciplining, and the stereotypical roles and projections embedded in our society. It also examines the education into fear of patriarchal and (trans)misogynistic violence and, in relation to the exhibition, deconstructs the myth of the girl*”. In contrast to such a pedagogy of cruelty,” the discussion explores pathways and approaches that enable girls’* lives and place connections at the center.

The course on which the discussion is based focuses on image analysis and interpretation, as well as a critical engagement with representation, (in)visibility, and concepts such as othering, hypervisibility, and stereotyping. It also examines how this knowledge can be applied in teaching with students.

In cooperation with the University of Art and Design Linz, Department of Subject Didactics – Mediation – Research, Petz Haselmayer.
