Cache
Feminist Aesthetics and Archival Processes
The exhibition Cache presents works by Tabea Borchardt, Anne Glassner, Claudia Larcher, and Katrin Mayer in the Lentos reading room. As recipients of working scholarships from the VALIE EXPORT Center for 2023/24, the four artists developed projects that engage with archival and activation processes, the physicality and writing practices of feminist art, media-based artistic transmissions of knowledge, and the complex temporal relationships of tradition and transmission.
The title of the exhibition alludes to technical protocols, spaces of retreat, and photographic techniques of framing, cropping, or masking. What inquiries can be made from the present to the history of feminist art? How can questions directed at the past alter what has been passed down, and how can new data sets be introduced? What role do caches, codes, hiding places, or photographic images play when four artists position their work and research processes in relation to VALIE EXPORT’s archive?
Since 2023, the VALIE EXPORT Center has been awarding working scholarships to artists and artistic researchers. The focus is on the fields of video art, media art, photography, film, and performance art.
