Linda Bilda
Much too young and entirely unexpectedly, Linda Bild passed away in the summer of 2019. The Lentos puts on the first retrospective for the Viennese artist. This show, however, is not going to be a laid-back overview: Bilda’s poetical politpop in its many different incarnations has left nothing untried to disturb the world’s slumber.
Linda Bilda (1963 – 2019) intervened early on in her career in public space with her fearless activities. She founded several journals, produced comics and provocative paintings, organised reading and discussion circles, invented new open air imaging techniques and held international patents for a major invention, which she called light-glass. In her work, she strives for an “emancipatory pictorial policy”.
Accompanied by various fringe events, this exhibition at the Lentos focuses on the artist’s sense of urgency and her drive for change, which is apparent in everything she did.
